How to benefit from trends.

April 11th, 2012, Kevin Kelly came to Taiwan again. Founding Wired Magazine in 1993, Kevin is renowned as a technology prophet today. This time at Taipei, Kevin Kelly made another prophecy as to what technology would evolve into in the next 7,000 days.

Actually, if you aren't aware of them already, these trends are happening around you 7x24x365. And they are not hard to identify . But if you still don't get it, here are 4 trends proposed by Kevin Kelly:

Trend 1: Screening: Screens will be everywhere. You can get your information and communicate with the screens in and outside buildings. Would you still need to bring your own hardware along? The answer is no, because you can do almost all your work with the screens in the surrounding environment. The communication with the screens will not be one sided, as cameras from the screens can help the back ground servers interact with you. Eye tracking, facial, and movements will be recorded and analyzed, bringing you more and more personalized services.

Trend 2: Flowing: Information flowing will be increased at amazing rates. The metadata pertaining to these information will also grow exponentially. Information will be exchanged amongst people vs. people, people vs. products, product vs. products. Anything that can be captured and analyzed will be captured and analyzed.

Trend 3: Sharing: Anything that can be shared will be shared. Facebook, twitter, etc. have already proved the point. Life streaming, life logging, body logging, and anything that can be quantified will be recorded. Human nature will direct vanity to triumph over privacy. At this current stage, we are just at the beginning of sharing.

Trend 4: Accessing: Access to information will be more important than owning that information. Still wanting to buy a book? Why not have access to it, read it, and then don't have to worry about where you store it. The next time you need it again, just access it. The cloud revolution is exactly doing this.
We are living these 4 trends today, and it's just the beginning. Still the old school you? Well it's time for a behavioral revolution. But the important thing is, how to benefit from these trends? If you're not RD or CEO of a huge tech company, here are some things you can do, invest. What to these trends mean to you?

Action 1 for Trend 1:
A. Screening: Go identify who makes the screens. This means, the TFT-LCD players or any new technologies that deal with screens. For interaction, you may also want to take notice on players in the Touch technology. Don't forget on microphones and voice recognition software.
B. Camera: Identify Lens and Camera Module players. Sensors will also be necessary for movement identification.

Action 2 for Trend 2:
Since flowing will be growing at exponential rates, all technologies that enable flowing will also grow. This means, bandwidth, storage servers, data mining, security, short range communication technologies (wifi, bluetooth, irda), etc. will be required to enable efficient flowing.

Action 3 for Trend 3:
In line with Trend 2, bandwidth, storage, servers, security will be necessary to allow sharing of data. As to whom to share with, socialization will develop more into more selective and alternative methods.

Action 4 for Trend 4:
Accessing means the data are stored in the Clouds. Go take a look at companies that are in the Cloud sector, both in hardware, software, and services.

So don't just sit there, take advantage of this knowledge. Wouldn't it be smart to buy Apple when it was US99/share instead of the current USD605/share?
